Random...Really, Really Random!

So, I think that people on Craigslist have decided that if you have a tacky piece of furniture that is twenty years old, and place "vintage" in front of it...that it will sell for more. I just want to tell them, "Actually, your furniture is not "vintage," it's just hideously old and ugly...and you will never get that price for it!" I guess that wouldn't be very nice! :-)

I've been craving soda lately. Weird. I mean, really craving it. I used to drink a lot of soda when I was in school. I don't know why. I guess water is just a little boring sometimes. Then I stopped. It's expensive and not all that great for you. I've kicked a lot of not so good habits and they have been rearing they're ugly heads again lately. One of those is eating right before bed. Sugar cereal is one of my main food groups. I used to eat one or two bowls right before bed. I quit doing that though...mostly becuase eating when I'm tired wakes me up, and I would stay up later then I really wanted to. The last few nights though have ended with a bowl of Lucky Charms in the belly. Oh well.

Oooh, wanna see the new bathing suit I got? I can't believe that I got it for $8!!! At first when I looked at it I thought it sort of looked "old ladyish." When I tried it on though...I really liked it. It's super cute on, it covers all of the rump (so many suits ride up, way annoying), and I feel very "secure" in it if you know what I mean. ;-). And yes...it's a one piece. I still wear one pieces...always (not just at church events!). Nothing against two pieces. I think if I were married I would maybe wear a two piece. It doesn't even bother me that all my friends wear one. I just think that I personally would feel really ackward in a two piece with Jason (since, for the most part, when I'm in a bathing suit I'm with him). I have underwear that's more modest than some of these two-piece suits out there...sheesh! Fortunately he fully supports and desires for me to stick with the one piece so, there you go! I will say though that the one-piece comes with a price...an almost transparently white stomach! Yuck! :-)

*Note: I actually didn't intend this to be a discussion on why I like one pieces...nor is it condoning those who wear two pieces. If you wish to leave your opinion on the matter though...go for it!!! :-)

That is a cute suit! I think the thin strap adds to making it look youthful and fun, too. I was just wondering why you wouldn't be comfortable in a 2 piece? Not trying to be nosey, i just like to hear other people's opinions on things....

I honestly don't completely know. Here are some random thoughts on the subject, in no logical order! :-)

First, I think that it was something kind of ingrained into our heads through youth group. We always had to wear one pieces and had all those "modesty" talks. :-)

Second, the biggest reason is that Jason also would prefer that I not wear a two piece. He thinks it would be a bit much for him and so I'm obviously going to respect that. (He grew up in the same youth group and so has the same ideas).

I've seen two pieces that are more modest than others that I've thought are really cute (like the one's that are a "bar" across the chest rather than triangles). Maybe it's silly. I'm not sure.

It's mostly personal comfort though. I feel pretty stinkin' naked in a two piece. I'm sure I'd get used to it if I started wearing one regularly.

I am conflicted though and I totally understand and don't think less of anyone who is in a two piece. I just don't think that becuase you are around water, and everyone else is wearing it, you should let yourself hang out every where. It's the balance of how do we present ourselves as vessels of God...even at the beach. The thought too of me walking buy some guy and him checking me out becuase I haven't left all that much to the imagination sort of grosses me out. So....

That was a really long drawn out answer to say...
I don't know. It's just what I'm confortable in, justified and logical or not! :-) haha

I also wanted to add that a more modest two piece is probably not considered immodest...becuase you're more covered up then the average person on the beach. I have no idea why I don't like the idea of "relative" modesty though. Is it always relative to society? Are you modest as long as you are a little more covered up than the norm? Where do we draw the line at that? The philosophy major in me doesn't like that realtivity. Not sure though. At this point though, with modesty as it is...a modest two piece is A-Ok in my book! Not that it matters what I think! hehehe.

Oh Anna - I'm liking the one piece too! Ever since I got married, though, I've been wearing two pieces... and I like it. Especially when you have to go to the bathroom. :-) Ummm... I really had been craving soda too and so Travis and I bought a bunch so that I could give into my craving and thus, maybe, get rid of it... no. It just resulted in me wanting more and awful heartburn. So, I'm giving that up again. And I also LOVE sweet cereal and could eat a whole box of Lucky Charms in one day, probably. Good thing they're more expensive and I can't always fit it into the budget. :-)

love that bathing suit!! I may have to make a trip to Target, I need a new bathing suit...

Wow, to be able to pee without taking off the suit would pretty much make wearing a two piece worth it! It is so annoying to have to do that! :-)

Your explanations make sense! It's all a matter of personal preference. There are some very modest 2 pieces - like with "sports bra" style top and high waisted bottoms. But those don't look so comfy to me! Unless you were doing something athletic...

It especially kills me to see young girls (girls who aren't even in high school yet) wearing reallllly skimpy suits. I just can't imagine allowing my daughter to flaunt herself like that. It hurts my heart to see it. Anyway, whoever thought a discussion about swimsuits could go so far! :)

haha anna this post was exactly what I was thinking. All of it.

First I'm totally sick of these Craigslist people with disgusting ugly furniture calling it "vintage" or "retro". I've also noticed that if they call the piece of furniture BEAUTIFUL it normally means it is completely hideous. I was pondering giving up on this whole Craigslist thing but then today I bought a nice dining room table for a really good deal. So I'm back to liking Craig.

Second, I've had soda the last two days and I NEVER drink soda. (I probably shouldn't be drinking it right now on account of me trying to grow an extra bone in my foot at the moment, but the urge was just too strong)

Third you should go read my new blog. I posted about my sudden addiction to Froot Loops. I didn't used to be a cereal person but the last month the only thing that has sounded good is Froot Loops.

And finally I'm on the hunt for a one piece bathing suit. I actually own a bunch from waterpolo but they are the sporty ones and they are all two sizes too small (so people can't tear them off in the pool!) I don't have anything against two pieces but I was pondering the "relatively modest" thing too.

So basically our brains are working the same today. weird. Anyway if you want a garage sale/flea market/target shopping partner let me know. Me and Lance are trying to furnish the new place we will be moving in to. And we have no money so I'm all about the garage sales! Sorry this was the longest post ever.

ok so I'm leaving you another comment because you left me a comment and I didn't know if I commented on my own blog after your comment if you would ever read it. (that actually kinda made sense). Yes I am moving in with Lancey Pants. Go check out my blog again I just finished a post about the house situation. And YES count me in for garage sale-ing. I'll still be on crutches this Saturday which might be a tad difficult but probably possible, and then the next Saturday I will be CRUTCH FREE. (I know you, you probably didn't know that was possible. Contrary to popular belief those silver poles are not a part of me. weird I know). I'll check out old navy too!! I also have a Target gift card, did they have any other one pieces that are worth driving over the grade for?

oh my goodness, you always make me laugh!

okay, i'm totally a one piece kind of girl in public. yes, i got two pieces once i was married, but those are only seen by my husband (oh, and i guess my kids!). we have a pool and hot tub, so i can wear the two pieces with freedom.

i choose to wear one pieces in public for exactly the same reasons as you. i'd totally feel naked if i wore a two piece! and it's out of respect for the men who are trying to keep their thoughts pure.

now, i totally dig a tankini!! it's technically a two piece, but if you get the right kind, it completely covers your tummy (and you can easily go to the bathroom!). that's totally the way to go. i have a tankini from lands end (or l.l.bean--i get the two confused). maybe it covers my tummy because i'm short, but it's awesome.

anyway, love the new suit! awesome colors!

and i heart soda.

It's SO cute Anna!!!! I need to go do the dreaded bathing suit shopping....I love 2 pieces but I've always been conservative when it came to the church stuff..always polite. How are you doing???

cute bathing suit! i am all about the one pieces or modest tankini-type swimming suits. i'm actually MORE modest now that i'm married...back in college i unfortunately didn't care as much. dork!

i want my daughters growing up with a healthy view of modesty and sexuality. i want them to know both from God's Word, and from their mom's example, that we were bought at a price and should honor God with our bodies. (Keep in mind I am under no delusions that me in a skimpy bikini would cause ANYone to stumble...heehee! :) )

then it's funny 'cause it seems different at different ages. anna has a modest two-piece right now, but she's just a little girl, and that doesn't bother me.

no clue where the actual "line" is, but for me, i'm happy in a one piece. not a popular conversation topic but interesting nonetheless!
